Exporting Files to PDF

Mac OS X.2 or later and Adobe Acrobat 6

 

 

Although Mac OS X has built-in PDF creation capabilities you will use Adobe Acrobat to create your PDFs.  This ensures that your graphics are a high resolution and that fonts are embedded in the PDF that will be used to print your copies.

 

Follow the instructions below for creating PDFs from different applications:

 

 

 

From InDesign CS

File Menu > Export > Format as Adobe PDF > Select Press for Preset at top.

 

 

From Pagemaker 7

            Open your file.

File Menu > Export Adobe PDF.

            Select Distiller Settings:  Select Press Quality.  Click Export.

            Save the file somewhere convenient.

 

OR

 

            Open your file.

            File Menu > Print > Click the Options button.

Check the box in front of Write Postscript to File. 

Make sure under Download Fonts you have selected PostScript and TrueType. 

Click Save.

Save the postscript (.ps) file somewhere convenient.

 

            Open Adobe Acrobat 6

Select Acrobat Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Postscript/EPS > click Edit Settings and   

      select Press Quality for Adobe PDF Settings.  Click OK.  Click OK again.

Select File Menu > Create PDF from File.

                        Locate your PS file and open it.  It will be converted to PDF with the appropriate PRESS settings.

 

 


From Word 98 or 2001 (classic environment)

 

            File Menu > Print > Save as File.

Select General and pull down to Postscript Job.

Destination should be File.

Font Inclusion should be All.

Click Save.

 

 

            Open Adobe Acrobat 6

Select Acrobat Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Postscript/EPS > click Edit Settings and   

      select Press Quality for Adobe PDF Settings.  Click OK.  Click OK again.

Select File Menu > Create PDF from File.

                        Locate your PS file and open it.  It will be converted to PDF with the appropriate PRESS settings.

 

 

 

 


From Word X or later

 

            Open Adobe Acrobat 6

Select Acrobat Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Postscript/EPS > click Edit Settings and   

      select Press Quality for Adobe PDF Settings.  Click OK.  Click OK again.  Quit Acrobat.

 

            Open your file.

Select File > Print.  Under Printers select Edit Printer List.

            Click Add + to add a printer.

            Select IP Printing from the top drop-down list.

            Printer Type should be Internet Printing Protocol.

            Printer Address should be the entered as      localhost

            Printer Model is Adobe.  Model Name is Adobe PDF.

            Click Add.   Close the printers list to get back to your print window.

                        Note:  You will use the localhost printer any time you want to make a PDF with Press Settings.

            Click Save.

            Name the pdf and specify a location for saving.

OR

 

            Open your file.

Select File and Print.

            Click Copies and Pages and pull down to Output Options.

            Click the Save as File box and select Postscript from the drop down list.

            Save the postscript file (.ps) somewhere convenient.  Quit the application.

 

            Open Adobe Acrobat 6

Select Acrobat Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Postscript/EPS > click Edit Settings and

Select File Menu > Create PDF from File.

From Appleworks 6.x

 

            Open Adobe Acrobat 6

Select Acrobat Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF > Postscript/EPS > click Edit Settings and   

      select Press Quality for Adobe PDF Settings.  Click OK.  Click OK again.  Quit Acrobat.

 

            Open your file.

Select File > Print.  Under Printers select Edit Printer List.

            Click Add + to add a printer.

            Select IP Printing from the top drop-down list.
